Diego Alonso Penny Valdez signed a three year contract at Burnley on 27th June, for a fee to be in the region on £200k.

The 6 foot 5 Peruvian goalkeeper is No1 for his International team Peru, and captain of his former team Coronel Bolognesi.

Coronel Bolognesi had won the Copa Peru twice and the Primera Division (Clausura) in 2007. The team qualified for the Copa Libertadores as a result of the Clausura success.

Penny (who sports an Alice band) speaks English fluently, and was  handed the No1 Jersey in 2008/09. And started the season with Brian Jensen as back up, but one game in and a heavy defeat to Sheffield Wednesday Diego lost the shirt back to Brian, and was to be his understudy in Burnley's Championship winning season, during Burnley's Premiership season Diego would lose that spot also when new manager Laws signed former Manchester City keeper Nicky Weaver.

the 2010/11 campaign about to get underway another blow was set for Penny, when the number one shirt he owned for the past two years was handed to new signing Lee Grant.

Diego look's to be the third man out, as Brian Jensen and Lee Grant fight over the goalkeeping spot and Diego plying his trade either in the reseves or Ashley Hoskins newly formed Development squad.

On the 16th August it was offically announced the Diego had left Burnley by mutual consent, to move back to Peru to persue first team football.
