Burnley Jimmy Mullens second trophy ,coming just 4 months after securing the fourth division trophy , Jimmy took part in this preseason tournament , with everyone at Burnley still on a natural high . The competition goes back to 1879 with the first winners Darwen who defeated Blackburn Rovers, And Jimmy Mullen did it (again) , After stuffing Preston 5-1 (revenge for the previous hammering's handed out by North End), and a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road gave us the final against Bury ,who had beaten Rochdale and made a draw away at Bolton to book themselves a place in the final. The game itself ended in a 2 - 2 draw with Robbie Painter and Adrian Randall scoring the goals ,the match was concluded with a penalty shootout Burnley winning 4-3 with David Williams saving Bury's 5th penalty from Kevin Hume . That left the job for club Captain Joe Jakub to lift the Trophy in front of 5,199 fans a Turf moor .
The Four penalty scorers were , Ian Measham,Paul McKenzie,Adrian Randall,Joe Jakub.
