D.O.B:12th September 1980 Previous Clubs:Newcastle,Sunderland,Bradford City(Loan),Blackpool(loan),Leeds United(loan),Burnley, Wigan Position : Defender /Centre Half Clarets Debut:3rd Feb 2006, Queens Park Rangers (A) lost 1-3 Championship Last Game for Burnley: 9th May 2010, Spurs (H), Won 4-2 Premiership Fee: £200k with a £200k add on (payable at a later date) Claret Honours: Play-off Championship winner (Captain) International Honours: Scottish International 10 full caps Claret Stats: 115 (5) Appearances, 5 Goals Signed by Steve Cotterill Claret Stat: Scottish International Caldwell, a snip when Steve Cotterill stole him from Sunderland for £200k (what rises to £400k), and the brother of Celtic star Gary. Steve won the Claret fans over with a string of impressive performances, taking the captaincy of Wayne Thomas towards the end of his his first season, he was to be instrumental in the Burnley defence that would be the mainstay at the end of Steve Cotterill's reign. Steve who started out with the Geordie's back in 2000 made the transition from youth player to Premiership player with ease, starting 5 League games in his first full season,in his three seasons Caldwell would take part in 50 games notching goals on three occasions with the Geordie giants. It was Caldwell's quest for first team action saw him play for Blackpool, Bradford and Leeds United (all on loan), before a switch across the North East and Sunderland which saw Steve Caldwell forge a solid centre half partnership with Irish International Garry Breen. He was made captain of the Black Cats in 2007 before the swoop what saw him travel south to join the Claret contingent. Injury robbed Burnley at the start of the 2007/08 ,when Steve tore a tendon in the home game against Southampton which unfortunately took our captain longer to get back to the form he showed earlier in his Claret career, but now back to full fitness, Steve Caldwell has the leadership and ability to take the Clarets onto the next level. Steve Caldwell did take Burnley to the next level, captaining the Clarets to victory in the play off final against Sheffield United, but unfortunately injury robbed Burnley of their captain for the season in the Premiership, Steve only managed ten appearances including the last two games of the season, but this wasn't enough to warrant a new contract in the view of manager Brian Laws, Steve was released at the end of the 2010/11 season. Two weeks into the new season (2010/11) Steve Caldwell was signed by Wigan Athletic on a one year deal, he will team up with his brother Gary Caldwell.
