Claret Stat: The one that got away!!! David Reeves burst onto the scene when Brian Miller captured the front man on loan from Howard Wilkinsons' Sheffield Wednesday.

Reeves scored on his debut against local rivals Bolton, he then managed to score over one goal every two games in his time at Turf Moor, quickly establishing himself a real fans favorite.

One of the initiatives of the Burnley board at the time of Davids time was the 'Golden Gate', where supporters were asked to pay double to see the mighty Clarets, hundreds took this offer up expecting the raised funds to pay for their new hero!

But no matter what cash strapped Burnley did Howard Wilkinson was not prepared to sell David at 'any cost' ? strange that £80.000 took the striker to Bolton Wanderers not too mush later!

Most players who leave a club don't expect or receive a heroes welcome, but on his return to Turf Moor the following season with his team Bolton, he scored after just twenty seconds, the Burnley fans cheered along with the Bolton fans, in a show of support for a man who did no wrong in a Claret shirt, a man who tried harder while on loan than some who had a nailed on contract!

Football fans are fickle that's true, they never forget the bad players, the poor signings, the money hungry players who look at the wage before the club! But Burnley fans will always look at David Reeves with a smile on their faces,  for the front man never gave less than 100%, and in his 16 games left an remarkable impression as well as 9 goals.

After football, David joined local businessman David Hartley in a new sports management company, the financial services specialist has also lined former Claret Steve Blatherwick at  Prosperity International Sports Management to offering a complete package to sporting talent
