Kyle who was a prolific scorer in the Fermanagh & Western League for NFC Kesh, Went the way of Irish greats such as Jimmy McIlroy, Billy Hamilton, & Willie Irvine to leave Steve Cotterill saw the potential in young striker in 2005/06 sending him out on loan to Darlington where he played 9 games scoring 3 goals ,By the end of 2006 he found himself called up for the international side for the Tour of America .
His first goal in the emerald green of Lafferty made his Burnley debut at Gresty Road coming on as a sub for Garreth O’Connor in the 3-1 reverse to Crewe Alexandra, his full international bow came in America to Uruguay as a late second half substitute in May 2006. Kyle signed his first professional contract a three year deal which tied him at Turf Moor until the summer of 2009. In March 2007, he then penned a one-year extension to this contract, committing his future until 2010.But while money is being waved and teams such as the two Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic sniffing and with Fulham making a transfer deadline bid of £3mil ,and reportedly Wolves waiting to bid £4mil.
On the 17th June Kyle Lafferty signed for Glasgow Rangers for a fee of £3mil garanteed £250k based on appearences with 10% of any future profit.( + an undisclosed fee due to the fact that Alan Gow a lifeliong Rangers fan, wanted to stay and fight for a place in the Rangers team rather than move south to Burnley)

Kyle Lafferty made comments to the "Belfast telegraph" stating his desire to leave Turf Moor ,his reasons he has hasn't won over all of the Burnley fans, Turf Moor does not feel like home with certain people leaving, and he enjoyed his time more under previous manager Steve Cotterill.
Burnley manager Owen Coyle and Burnley Football Club released a statement ,basically stating that these comments of kyles have been taken out of context, and as Kyle is a Burnley player and unless an offer came in what matched the clubs valuation,, Kyle would remain a Burnley player Tuesday 17th June Burnley have agreed a fee with Glasgow Rangers, a fee of 3 million plus attacking midfielder Alan Gow, Lafferty plays for his boyhood heroes and Burnley put an end to this bidding war that included Wolves,Celtic and Rangers. Burnley manager Owen Coyle who didn't want to lose Lafferty, is happy the situation has come an end he stated on the official website that "We have received a very good offer from Rangers - a deal worth close to £4m when you include Alan (Gow), who has been offered to us in return as part of the package." "Ultimately, from the fans point of view, Kyle wanted to leave the club after saying he felt it was time to move on" "Providing the deal is concluded we wish him well, but ultimately we want players who are fully committed to Burnley Football Club."
Friday 20th June Alan Gow turns down the chance to play for Burnley, stating that it his ambition to play for his heroes Glasgow Rangers, and is willing to stay and fight for hisplace at Ibrox.
From a fans point of view, i think we are all happy its come to a conclusion, now we can look forward to the new season with players who want to play for Burnley. |
