Everton released Fox at the end of the 2004/05 season, Walsall were on hand to give Fox a chance, a chance he took with both hands, playing over 100 times scoring six goals, getting picked in the League one team of the season in 2006/07. Leeds United reportedly bid £300.000 plus clauses for Fox who was turning heads, down in the midlands, but it was Coventry City who came in for Danny and team mate Scott Dann in January 2008. Colchester also had a bid accepted by the Walsall board.
A former England U21 International, Fox made his debut for Stuart Pearce's side against Poland on 25th March 2008, but he declared himself eligible for Scotland, due to his Grandfather being from North of the border. He initially made the squad to travel to Asia to play Japan in October 2009, but pulled out due to injury, he made his Full Scottish Debut in the ill fated game against Wales, a game which saw the hosts put 3 past Scotland with no reply, Scottish Manager George Burley left not long after, the reigns being handed over to Craig Levin. Burnley made a bid for Fox in the last week of January, Laws wasted no time in identifying problems, a left back being high on his agenda, Fox fits the bill. Fox officially signed on 29th January 2010 for an undisclosed fee on a three and a half year contract. After sitting in the stands for the home Premier game with Chelsea, Danny made his debut against West Ham United, and a dream debut it turned out to be being hailed Man of the Match from the sponsors and capping an outstanding debut with the winning goal. |
