Tommy Cummings, Legend
Tommy started his football career at Hylton Colliery Juniors such was his quality as a centre-half he was invited to Strasbourg in 1947 to represent Great Britain in a junior international tournament. In the same year he signed a professional contract with Burnley also opting to continue his apprenticeship as a mining engineer.
Cummings made his league debut for Burnley in December 1948 under the management of Cliff Britton. He also played for England 'B' three times the first of these he was in good company lining up with Jimmy Adamson and Bill Holden in the England team, while another Claret Jock Aird was in opposition playing in the blue of Scotland. In 1951 Tommy took the Burnley Captaincy handed down from Harold Mather
Tommy played in the 1959-60 championship winning season and 1962 FA Cup Final for Burnley. In 1961 Tommy Cummings succeeded Jimmy Hill as Chairman of the Professional Footballers Association, a position he held till 1963.
In Burnley's all time list of appearances Tommy stands in fifth place behind Jerry Dawson, Jimmy McIlroy, John Angus and Alan Stevenson. And in 1963 was handed a testimonial for service to the Clarets 15 years a Caret to be exact.His centre half Birth he commanded for so long would be handed over to John Talbert.
In March 1963 he was appointed Player-Manager of Mansfield leading them to promotion from Division Four at the end of the season.
He was appointed Aston Villa manager in the summer of 1967 but sacked in November 1968.

Tommy Cummings died during July 2009, aged 80, he will go down in Claret folklaw as a true Burnley Legend.
