Martin Dobson aka Dobbo.

A true midfield legend for Burnley Dobo made his first appearance as a centre forward for Burnley in a 3,2 defeat to Wolves at Molineux in the autumn of the 67/8 season.

In his first stint as a Claret he scored 40 plus goals and this was soon to reap rewards when Dobo was picked for the national side, but he had a short lived career for his country receiving 5caps playing under 3 managers he was subbed on 70mins against the Czech and in came a certain Trevor Brooking which heralded the end of his international career.

In the August of 1974 Dobo moved across to Merseyside for a whopping fee at the time of £300,000 where he also became a cult hero at Everton spending 5 very prosperous years.

In 1979 the prodigal son came back home for another stint at Burnley for the sum of £100,000,but even Dobo could not save Burnley from relegation to the 3rd division, sad times indeed for Burnley fans, but things were about to turn around.

In the 81/82 season captain Dobo lead Burnley to the 3rd division title so at last a little happiness for claret fans.

Soon after Martin left us again to go and become player manager at Bury and then later on in his career he managed Bristol Rovers.

For Clarets and Evertonians alike who saw Martin on the field of play,we will never forget what a majestic passer of the ball he was and his vision was second to none in his heyday, almost Gazza and Hoddle rolled into one.

Martin Dobson a true gentleman and a true legend of all Clarets and he is still going strong, all the best Dobo,my boyhood hero.

He since has become an author having had published "Ultimate Goals-Wembley dream for Jake and Ricky"      Priced at £6-99 and available at Burnley's club shop

with thanks to Longside poster, Gavin, aka flying claret.
