The son of former Scotland defender Frank Gray, and the nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray, Harrogate-born Gray started his career as a midfielder at Elland Road.Gray played in one Cup Final at the tender age of 18 in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the League Cup Final.

Bury was his next port of call as a loanee at Gigg lane ,He eventually signed for Nottingham Forest in a £200.000 move ,He was subsequently loaned out to Preston North End and Oldham Athletic before he was shipped out of the City Ground ,this time moving to the Valley and Bradford City on a free in 2002.

Bradford City made Andy Gray a goalscorer knocking in 20 goals in 77 appearances made Neil Warnock take notice ,And Neil Warnock's love of centre forwards a move to Bramall Lane was soon to follow. He bedded in nicely at the Yorkshire team netting 28 times in 65 games( top league goalscorer in the Championship) .Money came and Any Gray left £1.1 Million took him into the Premiership with Sunderland and he duly scored on his debut ( a 3-1 win over Charlton). But at Sunderland his first team chances were few and far between .

And another loan move beckoned ,In January 2006 Burnley took Andy Gray on loan ,In June 2006 he signed for £750k, He was a roaring success scoring 25 goals in his 59 games.

Charlton was his next move £1.5 million took him from Turf Moor . It was the third time in three seasons that Burnley sold their star player in january.

.". Big money came in!! And Gray  got itchy feet ,orchestrating a move that would see Burnley (for the third successive season) lose their top goalscorer in January. £1.5 million took him to Charlton . And many Burnley fans where left with a very sour taste in their mouths .

Money dictates in football now and loyalty is not something you get with the added zeros in the pay packet. And GRAY PROVED THAT.

Can never go down as a legend with the contempt he showed the club that rescued him from Sunderland reserves ."

BBC2's take on the on the selling our Star striker Andy Gray .
