Name : Jay Rodriguez D.O.B : 29/07/89 Previous clubs : None (but has spent time on loan to Stirling Albion 10(2) games 3 goals) Position : Striker Contract : one year deal signed in 2007( Manager Steve Cotterill) followed by a two year deal signed May 2008 ( manager Owen Coyle) which runs until 2010.
Jay was the only youth player offered a professional contract by former manager Steve Cotterill. May of 2008 and new manager Owen Coyle impressed by his progress offered Jay a two year deal after his loan spell at part timers Stirling Albion in the Scottish second division. Jay is certainly a player for the future, with the new managers view on youth he is sure to be given ample chance to show the talent he posseses.
Owen Coyle, looks to have unearthed a diamond, Jay in his first game in America showed great ability running off the ball taking defenders with him allowing Wade Elliot to waltz in and score Burnley's consolation in the 2-1 defeat against Carolina Railhawks, in the second game he showed his penalty box prowess, by scoring the second goal against Minnesota Thunder, after th keeper had parried, Jay was the first to react scoring his second goal for Burnley. Jay in December 2007 made his debut, coming on as a second half substitute against Bristol City, but it would be against Premiership Fulham where he put his name in lights, and had his face plastered all over SkySports. Against Premierrship Fulham Jay latched onto a through ball from Chris Eagles took the ball in his stride and expertly rounded the goalkeeper, it was the 87th minute of this Carling Cup tie, and Jays first for Burnley was enough to see off the Premiership millionaire's.
*Jay Rodriguez was sponsored by the clarets trust in 2007/08 and again in 2008/09
