He will always be remembered as the player that opened the scoring in the famous 'Orient Game' at the end of 1987, when Burnley knew that even three points wouldn't be enough to keep us in the League. His opener followed by Ian Britton's goal ensured that the name of Burnley FC would live on.

He was instrumental the following season when we had our run up to Wembley, unfortunately he was injured in the Northern semi final against Halifax, which ended his season and ultimately deprived him of a chance to run out at Wembley.
He recovered the following season and played a part in our play-off finish in 1990 before being released.

With his frame being short and stocky he didn't look like a winger, but had great skill and knew how to beat his marker and get the cross over.

Matt who goes by the user name "Braindead" on thelongsde. message board remembers him fondly "Once when I was a kid I went to Gawthorpe to watch Burnley training. Neil Grewcock was training on his own, as he was still struggling with the injury he picked up. He spotted me watching and asked if I wanted to have a kick around with him. I was proper star-struck, but he was a top top bloke and a decent winger".

Pete who goes by the user name of "ClaretnBooze" on thelongside. message board remembers "My abiding memory of the orient season are encapsulated by Grewcok and Britton. A jinking run in from the right wing passed 1 or was it 10 players and unleashes a thunderous 40 yarder into the top corner of the goal at the cricket field stand. Turf Moor erupts, I lose my union jack burnley flag (actually it was a quilt!) and survival is on. OK so my memories may have become clouded through time, is it really so long ago!?! but the feelings are still as raw now as they were then for a wide eyed 8 year old. "

Grewcock started out at Leicester City making 7(1) appearances scoring 1 goal spending three seasons at Filbert street making his first team debut as a fresh faced 16year old against Cardiff City. He left in March 1982 to join Gillingham where he made 30(4) appearances scoring 4 goals, but after one full season Niel was released and dropped into non-league football with Kettering town and onto Shepshead Charterhouse.

The June of 1984 John Bond signed Grewcock for Burnley one of Bonds last signings for Burnley, as Bond was sacked in August leaving assistant Benson took over at the helm.

Over 230 games a Claret, Grewcock will always be remembered for that goal that helped keep Burnley in existence.

After being released by Burnley Neil stayed local playing for Burnley Bank Hall.
