Joe Brown Played for Burnley in the early 50s, managed in the mid 70s, but his greatest achievement was the 1969 Youth Cup, where he was youth team coach, nurturing talents such as Steve Kindon, Dave Thomas, Alan West and Mick Docherty.

In 1976 after Adamson resigned from the managers post, Joe who was assistant manager at the time was given the managers job, a job which lasted just 13 months, for in 1977 he was subsequently sacked.

His 13 months in charge saw the Clarets relegated form the top division, and suffered a poor showing in the second division, he just didn't seem to have what it took to managed higher than reserve team football. Harry Potts a man he worked alongside took over a faltering side in February 1977.

Joe who's early career saw him make eleven appearances for Middlesbrough, just six in the Burnley first team in 1952/53, but in 1954 when he left the Clarets Joe found a home at Bournemouth where he played over 200 games for the Cherries.

In 1960 Joe moved not just teams, but continents when he moved into a coaching role in South Africa, but this was a step too far as withing a year he was back in England with Aldershot.

Harry Potts came calling for Joe in 1961, when he was offered a coaching role at Turf Moor, in 1970, nine years on he became chief scout at Burnley, Jimmy Adamson  then promoted Joe Brown to assistant manager in 1973, and with his resignation in 1976 Joe took the mantle of Burnley Football Club manager.

After his sacking in 1977, Joe moved south to Ipswich Town where he worked as a scout, he later turned his hand as a youth development officer at Manchester United.
