Burnley: Blacklaw, Angus, Cummings, Seith, Miller, Adamson, Connelly, McIlroy, Pointer, Robson, Pilkington. The Clarets were on their travels to Goodison Park for this midweek game and were looking to get back on the winning trail with high hopes of a quick double over Everton. Everton coming into the game with 1 draw and 2 defeats, the most recent being a loss of 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers the previous Saturday. The heatwave was continuing with serious water shortages which had led to water rationing throughout the area.Adam Blacklaw was out to prove himself after his poor showing against West Ham United on the previous Saturday. The game kicked off at the early time of 7-00pm, a time which would be unheard of today. The Toffees started the game the much better team, with both Angus and Blacklaw having to work extremely hard to keep out the Everton attack. Everton were on the scoresheet first with Wignall blasting the ball passed Blacklaw. Hickson was soon trying his showboating stuff against Miller, but Brian was having none of it and Hickson was becoming more and more frustrated as the half went on. McIlroy put a lovely ball through to the feet of Pointer and after a swift turn Pointer blasted his shot goalwards, it crashed against the underneath of the crossbar and went in, bring the Clarets level at 1-1. The second half kicked off with Parker the Everton full back continuing to hobble around the pitch after his injury late on in the first half. It was Everton who were doing more of the attacking but it was Blacklaw who was stealing the show with a brilliant display of goalkeeping. During the latter stages of the game it was Burnley who were now playing the better football, with Everton feeling frustrated after having most of the attacking play and not being able to beat the in form Blacklaw.

Programme Review. The Everton programme was an 8 page affair costing 3dThe teams were as printed apart from the 1 change with Sanders playing in the Everton defence instead of Bramwell.
Everton were also going to host an under 21 International shortly with tickets on sale now for this England v Hungary game at 10s 7/6 and 5s. Adverts in the programme were promoting tv's for rent at 11/3d per week, Bent's King Hal pale ale, Higsons double top brown ale and informing us all that Ringers A1 light hand rolling tobacco was still the best value.

e again hit a superb pass out onto the wing to Pilkington, who quickly crossed the ball into the area for Pointer to head home, 2-1 to the Clarets.At the final whistle Blacklaw was the player who took all the applause from the Evertonians after what can only be described as a wonderful display of goal keeping.
