Who has ever heard of Charles Sutcliffe? The effect "The Magical Magyars" had on Football? The 1946/47 season, with Britain in recession, and with Harry Potts the man who brought smiles to the faces of many a Miner, Weaver and Factory worker, this book goes into real depth with heart warming stories like these. Another hero who came under Dave's pen was Colin McDonald, and that cruel turn of fate which robbed Burnley and England of this great goalkeeper " A Goalkeeper's Tale" Chapter 4. From the greatest times to the worst of times, the great men, the misunderstood men, the fans favorites, and to the cult heroes. One of the truly remarkable chapters is "A Directors Tale",whereby Derek Gill gave his 132 page diary for the use of (this was incidentally used by Burnley Football Club's oldest Supporters Club "The London Clarets" and another Claret Author "Phil Whalley"), altogether fantastic and insightful stuff. Every now and again a book comes out which tells you tales, re lives the past and answers the mysteries! Dave Thomas has managed to do this not once but TWICE. No Nay Never volume one gave us an insight into this great club that we all follow,he has continued this trend with volume II, it not only explains, it teaches, it brings the men we put on pedestals back into the real world. The John Bonds of this world, Misunderstood? The Bob Lords of this world, Tyrant? The Martin Dobson's, Victimised? The Rochdale's, Insignificant? I can read and re read, use it for settling arguments, use it for starting arguments, its a book of opinions not just the authors own, but the contributors, the fans, the press, and those of You and Me! Dave Thomas has spent months researching this book, and all his hard work is really only for one thing " The youth set up", Burnley Football Clubs Future, OUR Future! All the proceeds from this fantastic book will go, not into Dave's pocket, but to help secure the conveyor belt that in recent years has produced the likes of,
Richard Chaplow( England U21), Not forgetting Burnley's new star Jay Rodriguez who netted his fist Claret goal against premiership side Fulham earlier this year, incidentally Jay donated the very football he scored with, as a prize to be raffled at the NNN II book launch. The above players with John Coffie, who unfortunately left Burnley at the tender age of 15 to join Manchester United, has seen The Clarets raise approximately £6.5 Million in transfer fees, that goes to show how important the money raised from Dave's book will be in helping secure the future of this great club! With people like Dave (Left), who has often put Burnley Football club in front of any personal gain, this club can only prosper, these ardent fans like Dave are the life and blood of this football club.
