Diego Alonso Penny Valdez signed a three year contract at Burnley on 27th June, for a fee to be in the region on £200k.

The 6 foot 5 Peruvian goalkeeper is No1 for his International team Peru, and captain of his former team Coronel Bolognesi.

Coronel Bolognesi had won the Copa Peru twice and the Primera Division (Clausura) in 2007. The team qualified for the Copa Libertadores as a result of the Clausura success.

Penny (who sports an Alice band) speaks English fluently, and will be handed the No1 Jersey. With a back four in front of him with the nationalities of English, Irish, Scottish and Norwegian it could be a comical few games in pre-season.

A new commanding Goalkeeper with a new youthful nucleus of the team, Penny could be the required piece of the jigsaw Coyle, and Burnley, needed.
