His league debut for Leyton Orient came via the substitutes bench in the 3–1 defeat at home to Charlton Athletic on 13 August

Lewes and Hastings were to profit, as Leytin Orient sent out the winger on loan during the 2010/11 season. He made his first start for Orient and scored his first professional goal on 17 September 2011, in the 3–1 defeat at home to Oldham Athletic.

A string of impressive performances, including a goal in his FA Cup début against Bromley, soon saw him attract interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

On 23 May 2012 George Porter rejected a two year contract offer from Leyton Orient, signing for the Clarets in July 2012, The fee which was fixed by tribunial was set at £90.000 with a further £70.000 based on appearances and a further £100.000 if Burnley gain promotion to the Premiership and George plays 23 times during that promotion season.

In January 2013, Sean Dyche allowed George to join Colchester United on a 'Youth' loan deal till the end of the season, the loan deal allows Burnley to recall Porter at any point.
