Claret Stat: Born in Southampton and raised in Lymington, Vokes signed for Bournemouth as a youngster in 2005 making his Bournemouth debut on the 5th December 2006 in a 2–0 victory over Nottingham Forest. His first senior goal came just 11 days later in a 1–1 draw at Gillingham on 16 December. In January 2007 Bournemouth gave Sam his first proffesional contract, signing a three and a half year deal. The following season Vokes was linked to several other clubs, including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Everton and Celtic.Sam scored 12 times for the Cherries that season but could not prevent Bournemouth from being relegated to League Two. Bornemouth sold Vokes to Wolverhampton Wanderers in May 2008, but with Chris Iwelumo and former Manchester United youth player Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Vokes was used mainly as a substitute. Simon Grayson gave Vokes some playing time when he signed the forward on loan, Vokes in return helped the Yorkshire club to promotion from League One. Bristol City was Vokes next port of call, but after an injry ravaged time in Bristol where he made just the one appearance against Millwall, where he tore his hamstring early in the match. A month at Sheffied United, where he netted once in a six game run. Towards the end of 2010/11 Vokes signed on emergency loan basis for Norwich City where he scored just once in four games, before being recalled to his parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers after injury to first choice striker Kevin Doyle. Vokes made two substitute appearances for Wolves, helping them stave of relegation. In November 2011, Vokes signed for Burnley making his debut on the 1-2 home defeat to Leeds United. Vokes scored his first goal for the Clarets in the 4-0 home win over Ipswich Town, he scored again at Upton Park (The Winner) when Burnley defeated West Ham United 2-1. Sam scored twice while on loan, before ending his stay on Jan 15th, his last involvment came when he came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road. Vokes who is a current Wales international, scored twice coming off the bench agaisnt Norway in a 4-1 victory in November shortly before making the loan switch to Turf Moor. English born Vokes, became eligable for Wakes through his Welsh-born Grandfather. Burnley legend Brian Flynn gave Vokes his U21 debut in 2007, and it took the forward under a minute to score his debut goal on the international scene against Northern Irekand in a 4-0 victory. Volkes scored his first full International goal against Azerbaijan in a World Cup Qualifier in September 2008 |
