Joe at the tender age of sixteen managed a couple of first team outings in the third division with Livingstone.

Joe has been a regular with the reserve and development squads at Burnley and looks to have a very exciting future in the game.

Below is a qoute taken from the Citizen newspaper 18th May 2011

"He's scored some wonderful goals for the youth team this season from 25-30 yards. He got a hat-trick against Oldham away and stuck his lasst goal from just over the halfway line.

It was a wonderful piece of skill. Not many players have got that awareness, or the ability to do such a thing.

He came down from Livingstone as a 16-year-old.

He'd been on the radar of a few clubs, including us, and it was Owen Coyle's influence, knowing him from Scotland, that brought him to Turf Moor.

We were delighted he decided to join our club and since he's been recognised by Scotland Under 19s.

He often stays behind after training sessions with the likes of Tyrone Mears working at free kicks."

Director of Youth

Eddie Howe handed Joe the Number 34 shirt for the 2011/12 campaign.

After making his first team bow away at Oldham Athletic in a pre-season friendly it seemed Joe was on the verge of breaking into the first team squad, this intensified when four days later he made a second appearance against Premiership Sunderland again from the bench.

Joe was another of Burnley's future stars farmed out on loan, after Alex-Ray Harvey loan spell at Fleetwood, and Kevin Long and Wes Fletcher off to Accrington Stanley on loan. Joe made his was to his native Scotland to join former Claret Steven Thompson at St Mirren, for a six month loan spell.

After making his first team bow away at Oldham Athletic in a pre-season friendly it seemed Joe was on the verge of breaking into the first team squad, this intensified when four days later he made a second appearance against Premiership Sunderland again from the bench.

For whatever reason, it all went quite for Joe, with the youth team turning in some headline grabbing performances, Joe and the other first year pros seemed to be left out in the cold.

Joe himself announced on twitter, that he had left Burnley with the imortal words "Burnley, Its been emotional".
