Burnley Manager Jan 16th 2011 to Present.
Eddie Howe began his professional career with southern club Bournemouth, after signing from local football team Parley Sports. Howe was very soon established as an important first team player, so much so that Eddie was selected for the Football League side that played their Italian counterparts in a special friendly, he was also capped for the England Under-21 team in the Toulon Tournament in 1998.. Harry Redknapp signed Howe for Portsmouth in 2002 for £400,000, making him Redknapp's first signing for Pompey. After Eddie had played 237 games for Bournemouth, a knee injury plagued Howe and new side Portsmouth when shortly after signing injury ended his season. Howe returned for the opening game of the 2002-03 season against Nottingham Forest, but injury to the same knee sidelined Howe for the entire campaign. He didn't return to full fitness until January 2004 after 18 months out. He was subsequently loaned to Swindon Town on transfer deadline day in March, although he did not feature for the club. Howe went back to Bournemouth on loan for the first three months of the 2004-05. He proved to be successful on his return to his first club and in November 2004 Bournemouth re-signed him permanently on a free transfer from Portsmouth, after it was reported chairman Peter Phillips made an appeal over the Internet for fans to pledge money to buy Howe.
After he was unable to recover from a knee injury Howe retired form playing in 2007, Howe lost his job in September 2008 when Kevin Bond was sacked as manager. Just three months later Howe returned to Bournemouth this time as youth coach, soon after Eddies return to Dean Court he took over as caretaker manager, after Jimmy Quinn was sacked on New Years Eve in 2008. Eddie Howe's first two games as caretaker both ended in defeat, he was still hired as the permanent manager of the club on 19 January 2009 and brought the club out of the relegation zone despite a 17 point deficit. In the start of the 2009–10 season, Howe won eight out of the nine games, a club record. In November 2009, Championship club Peterborough United approached Howe to replace Darren Ferguson as their manager but Howe rejected their approach. Despite the club's transfer embargo remaining in place for the rest of the season, Bournemouth secured promotion to League One after two years in the fourth tier of English football thanks to a 2-0 away win at Burton Albion on 24 April 2010. In early 2011 Howe was approached by several other clubs including Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic, but on 11 January announced that he was staying at Bournemouth. However, on 16 January 2011 it was reported that Howe had agreed to become the new Burnley manager after they agreed a compensation deal with Bournemouth. He took charge of his 100th and final Bournemouth match later that day in a 2–1 defeat away to Colchester United.
