A rare thing happened at Turf Moor in the close season of 1967. Frank Casper became th club's first transfersigning since Alex Elder almost eight years previously. He soon became a hero, scoring in each of his first three games league games adding two more in the fifth, a 5-1 hammering of Tottenham on September 2nd which was to prove the highlight of a moderate season.
The club was never going to be more than a mid-table outfit this season, and the defence had some alarming lapses, worst of all in the 8-1 embarrassment at the Hawthorns on November 11. Even struggling Coventry, whose long first division career began at Turf Moor on August 19th 1967, hit five past us in the rematch. Gordon Harris was transfered to Sunderland in January 1968, and Willie Irvine, whose 124 league games had yielded a remarkable 78 goals, moved to Preston in March. At the end of the season Burnley collected their first £100.000 transfer fee from the sale of Willie Morgan to Manchester United. The season is perhaps best remembered for the club's first success in the FA.Youth Cup. Over 11.000 came to Turf Moor on 110th Mat 1968 to see Coventry beaten in the final by a team including Dave Thomas, Steve Kindon, Mick Docherty, Alan West and Eric Probert. The future it seemed was in safe hands.

1967 - 1968 Division One*
oved to Burnley around the same time with less publicity, but was to prove at least as important to the club over the next few years. Martin Dobson made his debut, at centre-forward (a position which it was soon became clear was not his best) at Wolves on September 23rd. A month later, manager Harry Potts raided the marked again to buy defender Colin Waldron from Chelsea....another more than usual purchase.
