One of the hardest things to do in football, must be to leave the club you love, Stan Ternent wasn't sacked, he wasn't asked to leave, the board just didn't offer the man who saved them on so many levels, a new contract! The reasons, Unknown to the mere mortal. one day someone will speak an tell us the reason, but until that day comes, i think all Burnley fans will hold Stan in the highest regards. The season itself, was a poor one, but also a successful one, Stan kept us up, on "Beer Money". His team was build on hope youth and Lonee's, the hope came as players were sold, Taylor to Forest, before a competitive ball was kicked, Micheal Duberrys finger put paid to that. Man Utd winger Chadwick was brought in, along with former Blackburn player David May,other Lonee's would come in the shape of Todd, Farrelly, Wood, Orr, Adebola, and Jay McEeverly. 19th Place was our league placing, in a season what saw Burnley conceded 77 goals only Wimbledon conceded more, but we finished two points above relegation, and that alone made Stan's last, and hardest a success, remember Stan got told half way through the season there would be no Tomorrow, a lesser man could have let it slip. But not Stan the man, legend to the last. |
