What a season! Frank Casper lost his No2 Mick Docherty just before the start ,He left his beloved Clarets to join a certain Stan Ternent as No2 at Hull city. That was the start of the Burnley career of one Jimmy Mullen ( who had just been sacked by Blackpool) who stepped into the void left to join Frank Casper as his No2. And that was before a ball was kicked! John Pender who cost the clarets £70-000 when signed initially on loan from Bristol City was one of a number of new faces to grace the Claret and blue this season. David "Diddy" Hamilton was the first main signing of yet another season in the basement. Burnleys Squad was a mind boggling 27 professionals come late September ( only 21 wore the claret shirt) . The season however saw two Legends play there last league games for Burnley,Neil Grewcock and Ray "Wooshie" Deakin .It also saw the last in a claret shirt for Steve Davis Mk 1 who refused terms on a new contract and left for Barnsley for a fee of £180-000. Winston"Corn-circles" White played his last game as did Ron Futcher . Playoff defeat ended the season what saw some fantastic victorys and stories of support that would last for years. Quite a season !
